SEGUIN, TEXAS — Got cocoa? You will have , if you attend the 2013 Cocoa Sip ‘n Stroll Fri, Dec. 6, 5-9 p.m., presented by the Downtown Business Alliance of Seguin (DBA) and Seguin’s Main Street Program in downtown Seguin. This year’s Sip ‘n Stroll includes 20 “chocolatiers” providing homemade cocoa to shoppers against a backdrop of a decked-out town ready to ring in the Holiday Season.
Central Park will be bustling with holiday activities including horse-drawn wagon rides and Christmas movies at the Palace Theatre, while youngsters post letters to the North Pole or have photos taken with Santa himself. Holiday music and entertainment will punctuate the evening stroll in Central Park and a beautiful live nativity will grace the town at Seguin Christian Academy from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
The Stroll will continue on Sat., Dec. 7, 4-8 p.m. with shopping, snow and Santa in Central Park, located at 201 S. Austin St. just south of the Courthouse in downtown Seguin.
The 2013 cocoa-tasting mug, which is the ticket to tasting cocoa all over town, is available at any of the chocolatier locations for $12 or downtown the night of the event. The mug features the work of Seguin artist Nancy Russell
Another fun aspect of the Cocoa Sip ‘n Stroll is a friendly competition among the chocolatiers that will take place in front of Blessings Christian Gifts, 105 S. River Rd., from 4-5 p.m. Each participant can enter their special recipe in one of 5 categories: Best Milk Chocolate Cocoa, Best White Chocolate Cocoa, Best Dark Chocolate Cocoa, Most Unique Cocoa and Most Creatively Named Cocoa.
“The Holiday Sip ‘n Stroll is quickly becoming Seguin’s tradition for kicking off the Holiday Season after ringing it in with our spectacular Holiday Parade the night before,” said Audra Schulze of the DBA. “It’s a special night for people to enjoy with their families and friends. Sometimes we forget what our own town has to offer, so the Stroll helps remind our neighbors and visitors alike that there is no need to leave town or stress over holiday shopping. It is possible to shop locally and really enjoy sharing the Christmas spirit.”
The Stroll is presented by the Seguin Downtown Business Alliance, the City of Seguin Main Street Programs and sponsored by Pollock Printing and the Seguin Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Also kicking off the holiday season in Seguin is the Lighted Holiday Parade on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. on Austin St., and the Holiday Heritage Tour of Homes on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1-5 p.m. For more information on all of Seguin’s holiday events go to http://www.visitseguin.com or call 830-401-0810.
