The 2014 Frank Sullivan Sr. “For the love of the game” scholarship for Marion High School Volleyball, has been awarded by the Sullivan family. This year’s Recipient is Brooke Smith.
Smith was a starter on Marion Varsity for 3 years and her sophomore year was named to the 1st team All-District, 2nd team All Area and was a Regional Finalist. She was ranked 7th in the state of Texas for Liberos.
In her junior year she was named to the 1st team All District, 1st team All Area, 1st team All Academic, and was a regional quarter finalist. She was also named the Defensive Specialist of the Year and ranked 5th in the state of Texas for Liberos.
Smith’s senior year she played setter due to team injuries. In this new role she attained 1st team All District, 1st team All Area and ranked 7th in the state of Texas in assists.
Also as a member of the varsity golf team. She was an Area qualifier her junior year.
In addition to her volleyball accomplishments, Brooke was a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, and FCA. During her time at Marion High School she held the offices of Class Treasurer and Class Vice President.
Brooke is now attending Texas State University in San Marcos studying to obtain her nursing degree. She hopes to pursue a career in neonatal intensive care as a nurse for infants.
For the past two years Brooke has shared her love and skills of volleyball with area youth by coaching club volleyball for 13 year olds.
